Hugo Llanos Campos is the versatile pianist who is ready to give his soul to the music he plays, as Claudio Arrau once said: "An interpret must give his blood to the work interpreted".
Born in 1994 in Rancagua, Chile, his first approach to music was the folklore of his homeland. He began playing the piano at age 7 with Professor Jeremías Cáceres and later studied piano with Victoria Foust at the Universidad Mayor Conservatory in Santiago de Chile. In 2014, his deep enthusiasm for Ludwig van Beethoven's works and the desire to immerse himself in European musical culture led to the decision to perfect his musical education in Vienna. He completed a bachelor's degree, a master's degree and a posgraduate in piano at the Musik und Kunst Privatuniversität der Stadt Wien with Klaus Sticken.
His career to date has been marked by numerous awards at competitions and international performances. He was a prize winner at the International Piano Competition "Claudio Arrau" in Quilpué, Chile, International Music Competition in Osaka, Japan, International Piano Competition "Delia Steinberg" in Madrid, Spain and Bechstein-Bruckner Piano Competition in Linz, Austria. He has attracted international attention through performances at festivals such as the Texas State International Piano Festival and the "Musica Mundi" International Chamber Music Festival in Belgium. He has also collaborated as a performer in concerts with the Bösendorfer Piano Factory.
Chamber music holds a special personal significance for Hugo Llanos Campos. With cellist Nicole Peña Comas, the album "El Canto del cisne negro" was released in 2020 on the ARS Produktion Label with recordings of works by Latin American composers. As a duo with clarinetist Johanna Gossner, he won several international competitions such as the European Music Competition Città di Moncalieri 2019. The "Trio Mosaik" with his brother Diego Llanos (bassoon) and Johanna Gossner (clarinet) was awarded 1st prize, as well as the Audience Award, at the FIDELIO Music Competition 2018 in Vienna.
Hugo Alonso draws essential impulses for his artistic projects from his engagement with the classical Chilean musical tradition. His debut album "Un corazón al fin del Mundo" (2017) was the result of his own musical research and was recorded with the aim of presenting Chile's musical heritage in today's musical world. Recently he has released a new album, "Fantasía Chilena", on the ARS Produktion Label which is a tribute to 19th century Chile. Rooted in both the European tradition and the repertoire of his homeland, Hugo Llanos Campos has established himself as a musical ambassador for his region and his country.
